BALBOA, SHAG & FAST LINDY EXCHANGE BRISTOL

Tickets

Legs Misbehave is returning for an encore in 2026!

This swing exchange is dedicated to faster rhythms, creating the perfect playground for Balboa, Shag, Fast Lindy, or whatever speedy steps you want to throw down.

Take a look at last year's exchange for an idea of what we have in store. You can also find pictures from the event here and here.

We look forward to welcoming you to Bristol. We are thrilled about this year's venues, which are all accessible by foot from the train station. If you are travelling from out of town, we will aim to match you with a local host. If you are a local dancer, please consider offering a bed, couch, or floor space to a visiting dancer.

Music & Venues

Three Live Bands

BARREL HOUSE VIPERS

Formed in Bristol, the Barrel House Vipers have played together in numerous projects, including Henry’s Hot Six, The Gin Bowlers, The Kitchen Syncopators, and Around About Dusk. Their rich performance history includes appearances at the Ferrara Buskers Festival, Glastonbury Festival, and in the jazz heartlands of New Orleans and Europe. Playing from one of their faster sets, we're very happy to welcome them back to Legs Misbehave.

THE KITCHEN SYNCOPATORS

Like a rare species of bird, they are seldom seen on the Bristol Jazz and Swing ‘scene’ despite being relative veterans as members of bands (past and present) such as The Gin Bowlers, Around About Dusk, The International Jazz Disaster and Trudgeon’s Trad Jazz Troubadours amongst others. Last Year they joined us at Ashton Court to rave reviews.

JACK CALLOWAY & THE MIDNIGHT CREEPERS
WITH GRACE SHEENE

If one complaint stood out from last year, it’s that it wasn’t fast enough! Luckily, we've got the man for the job! Jack Calloway is a local hero who’s been broadcasting the sound of the swing era in his own inimitable way since 2013. Jack can cut a rug himself and is a big fan of Balboa; prepare for hella fast numbers and colourful language (though Jack said he’d behave).

Joining him on vocals is our special guest, Grace Sheene. Grace Sheene is an American jazz vocalist and songwriter based in London, UK. Her velvety, powerful voice — steeped in the rich history of the Great American Songbook — and radiant stage presence enchant audiences with a soulfulness that feels at once timeless and new.

We’re all in for a treat.

Two Stunning Venues

THE HARBOUR - TOTTERDOWN
FRIDAY & SATURDAY EVENTS

Formerly known as Totterdown Methodist Church. In 2024 Lighthouse Vineyard took on the ownership of the site with a view to developing it into a community hub – the birth of ‘The Harbour Totterdown’. We’re so excited to feature in the history of this incredible space.

THE SOUTHBANK CLUB - BEDMINSTER
SUNDAY TEADANCE

Those in Bristol need no introduction to the venue that has been the beating heart of Bristol's swing community here for well over a decade. We'd like to pass a big thanks to the owner Jess for facilitating the use of the space.

Activities

RHYTHM IS A DANCER - TALK

WITH DR PAUL ARCHIBALD

Before his drumming debut at Legs Misbehave on Saturday night, Dr. Paul Archibald is taking some time to break down the mechanics of jazz rhythms for us. We're still deciding on what best to distill from his broad knowledge base, so stay tuned for the exact topic.

Paul holds a PhD in Musicology and has drummed with big hitters like Rob Heron & The Teapad Orchestra, The Shirt Tail Stompers, and our very own Jack Calloway and the Midnight Creepers.

SOLO, FAST & SLOW

WITH JOEL OVONLEN-JONES

Joel Ovonlen-Jones is a Bristol based jazz dancer, choreographer, and Lindy Hop specialist. He draws on his background studying with Ryan Francois and his collaborative work with Sharon Davis and Lana Williams.

The class will cover dancing fast and slow to up tempo music and highlighting how adding a little texture can really improve your solo.

You can find him on Instagram here.

More activities to be announced soon…
